Description: This nature and game reserve embraces an area of
about 4066 ha and is saddled between two mountain ranges. The reserve is
bordered by the new emerging Tankwa Karoo National Park and is situated
about 300 km / 3 hours drive from Cape Town.
The Tankwa is a unique and isolated eco system of succulent plants and
Karoo vegetation which flourish in this harsh climate.
It is mainly a summer rainfall area; however when large cold fronts
approach the Cape during the winter months, the veldt is transformed
into a magnificent array of colour by the many different varieties of
flowers.
An original 1880 Karoo stone farm house is nicely redone to its original
status. Although modified slightly for comfort, the rustic appeal is
still prevalent with an old Aga stove nestled in the corner of the
kitchen. There are also 4 private campsites with indigenous thorn trees
and panoramic views.
With all the internal fencing removed, the 60 Gemsbuck, 100 Springbuck,
20 Blesbuck and other endemic smaller game species like Duiker,
Steenbuck and Klipspringer can roam freely. Jackal, Caracal, Aardvark
and the odd Kudu and even Leopard occur in the area.
The topography consists of mountains, hills, “vlaktes” and the Zout
River meanders for 8 km through the reserve. The river area is rich in
trees like the Acasia Karoo. Three natural springs, 5 boreholes and a
large ‘vlei’ close to the house attract an abundant of birdlife after
the rain.
Other than to relax with a good book and a glass of chilled wine, you
can enjoy game viewing, 4x4 trails, mountain bike riding, hiking and
mountain climbing, donkey car rides as well as bird watching. Access is
provided by well surfaced gravel roads.
The pace is unhurried, the vegetation is diverse, the game undisturbed
and clear blue sky stretches as far as the eye can see. The reserve has
a lot of eco-tourism potential.
For sale as a going concern at R3, 750,000.00 including game, some
movables and the listings on various tourism organizations.
